In 1958, Vagabond Motor Hotels, Inc, a California corporation, opened its first hotel in California: the first Vagabond Inn. It was geared towards the value-conscious leisure and business travelers.

For 50 years, Vagabond Motor Hotels, Inc. extended the Vagabond Inn brand on the West Coast: with hotels in California, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon and Washington. The brand was destined to become a familiar and trusted lodging brand to Californians and West Coast travelers. And Vagabond Inn soon became synonymous with affordable and comfortable lodging and friendly service.

In 1994, Vagabond Motor Hotel, Inc. and Imperial Hotel Corp. merged and flagged all Vagabond Inn properties, and continued expansion on the West Coast. The Vagabond Inns offer inviting California ranch style locations, ranging in size from 25 to 200 guestrooms, and provide a comfortable, home-like atmosphere. Each guest is welcomed by a friendly staff and treated with the same courtesy and graciousness you would show guests in your own home.

The success of this collaboration led to the launch of Vagabond Franchise System, Inc. The franchising allows the Vagabond Inn brand the opportunity to expand more quickly and in more locations. Standard services and amenities, at most locations, include free continental breakfast, free local telephone calls, free weekday newspaper, free high speed Internet, free incoming fax documents, and heated swimming pools. Many locations offer small meeting rooms and family suites.

In an effort to better meet the needs of the cost-conscious business traveler, Vagabond Franchise System, Inc. introduced Vagabond Inn Executive. Although it offers the same great value and hospitality of all our locations, the Executive locations also provides business travelers with added amenities including: expanded complimentary breakfast service area featuring fresh-baked goods, exercise facilities, and business centers. Our business-friendly guestrooms feature data ports, large work areas and ergonomic chairs.

In 2009, Vagabond Franchise System, Inc. partnered with America’s Best Franchising and their network of economy hotels (America’s Best Inns & Suites, Country Hearth Inns & Suites, and Budgetel Inns & Suites) and destination/luxury brand 3 Palms Hotels & Resorts.

Working in partnership with our franchisees, we continue to expand throughout the western United States. New locations are added frequently to better serve our guests.
