Seabee Museum

Features cultural artifacts from around the globe, as well as an extensive collection of World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam War uniforms and weapons. Fifty years ago, after Seabees returned from World War II, officials at Port Hueneme decided to commemorate the exploits of the U.S. Navy's builder-fighters. Because the men of the Construction Battalions had become legendary from their extraordinary efforts in the Pacific, North Africa, and Europe it seemed only appropriate to gather souvenirs veterans had left behind. These uniforms, original photographs, documents and artifacts were the birth of the Seabee Museum, the nation's second oldest Navy museum. Opening its doors to the public on July 4, 1947, the Museum over the last five decades has undergone renovations, extensions and additions, including a move in the 1950's to the present location. The core of the facility consists of two extensive Quonset huts. A second gallery (named the Moreell Wing in honor of Admiral Ben Moreell).
