Rootin' Tootin' Chili "Cook-Off" would be incomplete without chili teams vying for cash prizes and awards like "People's Choice". There will be a Kid's Fun Zone with hands-on activities for kids. There will also be bounce houses, laser tag games and the Living Coast Discovery Center will be providing animal encounters throughout the day. Funds raised at the 2016 Cancer Awareness 5K Run/Walk will support local cancer patients by promoting health education, early detection, cancer awareness, and comprehensive care management. EarthFair in Balboa Park is the largest free annual environmental fair in the world. EarthFair 2016 will be the 27th annual event. Each year, the EarthFair draws around 60,000 visitors. EarthFair 2016 will feature more than 300 exhibitors, special theme areas, a Food Pavilion, a special Children's Activity Area, four entertainment venues, the Children's Earth Parade, the eARTH Gallery arts and crafts show, and the Cleaner Car Concourse.
The Third Avenue Village Certified Farmers' Market is the longest running farmer's market in the South Bay and is open every Thursday. The market offers local, organic, and seasonal fruits, vegetables, and plants. Shoppers can stop by the international food courts that covers the following food categories of African, Mexican, Filipino, Indian, Greek, candy, baked goods, ice cream, kettle corn, and more. Explore the handmade arts and crafts booths, were items are at least 80% hand crafted. Location: Third Avenue and Center Street, which is just 1 mile from the Vagabond Inn Chula Vista hotel. Local artists, many of whom are nationally known, will display paintings and sculptural works at the Chula Vista Yacht Club. Participating artists include Dennis Simmons, Katarzyna Lappin, winners of the 2010 Chula Vista Harbor Days art show. Other well known local artists included in the juried show are Don Johnson, John Kalpus, Sandra Francour and Kate Hulse. The event features a “sidewalk cafe,” where diners can order French cuisine, including French onion soup, quiche Lorraine and crepes created by the Chula Vista Yacht Club's chef, Ted Borce.
